Saving your work

A project is one file that holds everything about a video — the storm, the look, the camera, the timeline — so you can open it again tomorrow, or on another computer, and carry on.

Save and Save as

  • File › Save writes your changes back to the project's own file.
  • File › Save as… saves a copy under a new name, or in a new place. The first time you save a new project, Save asks where to put it.

Projects end in .stormproj.

Storm Studio does not save for you yet. If you close the tab with unsaved changes, the browser warns you first. But if the tab crashes — most often from running out of memory during a very long export — anything since your last save is lost. Save before you export anything long.

Your videos and sounds travel with the project

Pictures go inside the project file. Video clips, music and voice-over files are too large for that, so Storm Studio keeps copies of them in a folder called media, next to the project file.

Keep the two together. Copy the project and its media folder to another computer and it opens there with everything in place.

Brave needs one setting

Chrome and Edge can make the media folder as they come. In Brave, first switch on its File System Access setting (type brave://flags/#file-system-access-api in the address bar). Without it, your clips still work, but are not copied beside the project.

Finding a project again

The Home screen lists your recent projects with a small picture of each. Click one to open it.

You can also choose a projects folder on the Home screen, to keep all your work in one place.
